A trip to the Zoo!
On Wednesday 8th November, the Junior School went on a trip to Auckland Zoo.
We all got to school early so that we could catch a bus to the zoo. It took ages because we got stuck in traffic.
Once we got to the Zoo we were greeted by the Zoo staff, after they talked to us about what was happening for the day we had morning tea.
We then all got into our groups and off we went! We saw so many different animals. It was so much fun walking around with our friends and discovering new things.
Thank you to all the parents and families who joined us at the Zoo!
The kids absolutely loved the day!

Diwali !
Last week we learnt all about Diwali...
Diwali is known as the Festival of Light... It is celebrated in India. They light lots of lamps which are called diva. They also light fireworks at night time. There's lots of yummy foods and sweets that they share with their friends and family.
To celebrate we made our own diva and decorated them.

Sliiiiiiime
One of our Passion Projects was learning how to make slime....
We did lots of research like watching videos of different ways we could make slime, seeing what (safe) ingredients we could use to make slime and even making our own slime!
The first time we made slime we use flour, laundry detergent, glue, food colouring and a little water... This slime was very messy!! But we had so much FUN playing with it!
We were lucky and had expert slime makers from Tui and Kahu come and help us make Borax slime.
For this slime we needed Borax, glue, water, food colouring and to make it extra special we added glitter!

Whaea Cyrah
Meet Whaea Cyrah!
She loves to read our big book with us. She even makes us look for letters and words in the story... sometimes we even look for full stops and speech marks.
Thanks Whaea Cyrah for helping us with our reading!

We made crystals!
In inquiry we are doing Passion Projects, the children are able to choose what they want to learn about. I gave the children a few ideas of things that we can learn about and they choose to learn about crystals.
So we looked at pictures of crystals and watched videos of how to make crystals.
This is how you make them:

How to make Borax crystals
What we need:
- Hot water
- Borax
- Pipe cleaners
- Skewers
- Food colouring
- Bowl or cup
- Spoon
- String
What we did:
1. First, you have to make a shape with the pipe cleaner. Then tie some string onto it and then tie it onto the skewer.
2. Next, get some hot water in a bowl or a cup, mix some Borax into the water until it becomes cloudy.
3. Add some food colouring if you want and mix it.
4. Dip the pipe cleaner into the mixture a few times then put it in the bowl/cup.
5. Leave it for 2 days.
6. After 2 days take it out of the mixture and you should have crystals!

BUBBLES!
Last Thursday with Whaea Holly we had some fun with bubbles.
We used our 5 senses to describe what bubbles are.
First, we smelt the bubbles....
Then, we listened to the bubbles....
Next, we looked at the bubbles....
Then, we touched the bubbles....
We couldn't taste the bubbles, so we tried to imagine what it would taste like.
Some of the words we came up with that describes bubbles are: colourful, beautiful, tingly, POP, soapy, pretty, good, wet, slippery, quiet, clear, like a ball...
